Happy Independence Day weekend!

 

With the Fourth of July almost upon us, this time marks a true start of summer to many people. From here on out, we tend to enjoy the hot months of July and August with an abundance of fun.

 

Now, while this year may not be quite like prior years with regard to our celebrations and festivities on the Fourth of July, fret not. It takes more than a pandemic to blunt the positivity and joy of this holiday.

 

For starters - some of you might be familiar with New York’s Macy’s Fireworks Show. Typically the culmination of Independence Day festivities, it’s one of the grandest firework displays across the nation. While this tradition may have been revised for this year, it has not been cancelled. The New York Times reported that “New York’s annual Independence Day celebration has been split up into a series of five-minute shows at locations across the five boroughs in order to discourage large crowds from gathering.”

 

Not only that, but the highlights from these five displays will be broadcast on NBC on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST, and will have a live finale to accompany it. The viewing will also include musical appearances by John Legend, Lady A, the Black Eyed Peas, and others! Definitely seems like a must-watch to me!

 

And in case your kids want something engaging and absolutely American to do? Well, the New York Historical Society has you covered! They’re offering several hour-long Zoom activities that are intended to be educational and engaging for children. Topics are said to include a celebration of the different cultures within the U.S. along with an overall history of our nation!

 

While this year’s celebrations may be different in the interest of safety, our patriotic passion is not diminished. I look forward to an amazing weekend!
